SPHE Guidance Document for Primary Schools
Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE) provides particular opportunities to foster the personal development, health and wellbeing of the individual child, to help them to create and maintain supportive relationships and become an active and responsible citizen in society. Through SPHE, children can develop a framework of values, attitudes, understanding and skills that will inform their decisions and actions both now and in the future.
This comprehensive guidance document aims to support schools in making decisions around the provision of SPHE, in order to ensure continuity of learning in SPHE during school closures.
The document invites schools to consider what SPHE content has been covered at each class level to date and establish agreed good practice in relation to communicating with parents/carers/ guardians. It outlines a wide range of suitable resources at each class level and invites schools to ensure special consideration is made around the selection of suitable resources for pupils with SEN. It also invites schools to explore how they can continue to use assessment and feedback to inform learning and teaching in relation to SPHE.
